V90 What is it??

the V and S90's were the creme de la creme!and the last Right Wheel Drive volvos.

It's a 960 with a lot of unnecessary weight and some rounded corners.

Hi, The S90/V90 were the successors to the 960 (saloon and estate) and, as pointed out, the last of the big Rear Wheel Drive Volvos. The S/V designation was to bring the 960 (updated model) in line with Volvos new model designation. They came along in 1996 and stopped in 1998 (if I remember) so they cam after the 850 was started and were still aroound when the new S70/V70 models were being brought out.. Des. . . ;)

mine was one of the few that were lying around ;) i dont know why they didnt sell more v90's, maybe people were put off by the engine size (3ltr model that is) id love one and maybe my next Volvo will have to be one-even then i think id go for the 2.5! i think theyre a fantastic looking estate and even now dont look dated! regards cavey

Looking at the timing, wasn't the V90 originally marketed just after the end of the First Gulf war, the one that GB senior didn't finish, and landed us with the mess we have now. If I'm right, there were still wellheads on fire or at least only just put out, and hence there was a bit of a crisis in fuel supplies (I think that it wasn't real, just a perceived crisis), plus we had petrol price rises, and tanker depots being blockaded, so that might have depressed the sales of big 3.0 litre cars. (So what's new???)

The V90 is still classed within my family (mum, dad, and little brother) as the most comfy car we ever had, and the best for long, effortless driving. Might not have been the most sprightly (that goes to a V40 Sport or a V50 sport with diesels in) or the quickest (possibly one of the many 745 Turbos and one solitary 850 T5 that we had), but is still one of the cars that is most fondly remembered. Think that there are a number of solid Volvo owners/drivers who reckon that as well; talking to people who have had a number of Volvos (and a pick of which ones) favorites seem to be the 960's and V90's
