Why won\'t PT Launch? Digi hardware in use by other application????

Some quick help would be appreciated. Due to a physical failure of my ATA system drive, I'm temporary using an external firewire drive (7200RPM) as my system drive. I've reinstalled the Protools software but I've hit a bit of a snag. Whenever I select the Digi001 as the output device in my sound control panel, Protools refuses to Launch, telling me that the hardware is in use by another program. The thing is, no other applications are running. This never happened using the internal hard drive. What's going on?

Well , seems like you almost answered your question ... Set your sound panel to Built in and PT should launch fine.

That's fine, but then other app's won't play thru the Digi001 and monitors. I was previously using the Digi001 for output without a problem.
