AVIHandler in Explorer locks AVI

MessageAuthor

I'm sure this has been brought up a thousand time. Whenever you click on an AVI in Explorer, it scans the AVI and try to preview it or something, which pratically locks the AVI when the file is huge (whole movies). Sometimes I have so many AVIs locked I had to reboot (or logout then log back in) just so I can delete/rename those AVIs. Is there a way to disable the AVIHandler? I'd ditch Explorer if I knew of a decent general purpose file browser alternative. I wish there were an OS X Finder clone for Windows....

n/m, found the solution. Find the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32 where.... default = %SystemRoot%\System32\shmedia.dll Most says delete the key, I just renamed "InprocServer32" to "InprocServer32-" instead.
