Drum Quantizing

MessageAuthor

Hey guys, I've been a REAPER user for years and I've never had any issues with it other than drum quantizing. I've seen what Beat Detective can do and I've been jealous ever since. For those of you who use the beat quantizing feature on REAPER, what settings do you use to achieve a decent sounding result? I've tried splitting and quantizing but the overheads sound strange (crashes in the wrong places, stuttering kicks or snares, etc). Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

It's not speed that kills, it's the speed difference that does. Obviously you aren't going fast enough. Turning Benjamins into noise since 1997 I read a list of the 100 things you MUST do before you die. Funny, "Yelling 'HELP'" didn't make the list!

RE: Drum Quantizing

Now that Reaper handles multi-channel audio files, has anyone tried that?

RE: Drum Quantizing

I tried it and it works great following pipelines tutorial. However I do it manually where I group all the drums and then using tab to trasient I split at every kick drum hit. Once the drums are split then quantize audio and listen back to the in time drums. Its really easy and it works. You could also use dynamic split to split the drums but I found I was actually spending more time trying to get the drums to split on the right transient. Do it the manual way. It doesn't take long at all.

RE: Drum Quantizing

I think a strong 'beat detective' (as powerful as PT) would be a game changer for Reaper. The other thing is for it to be able to import sessions from other DAWs, but that's another thread. :)
