Slysoft (AnyDVD & AnyDVD HD) Ending Lifetime Licences From 31st Decemeber 2010

Is anydvd worth the money?

I wonder if it would be illegal for me to purchase this as the law in my county clearly states that it would be illegal for me to use this program. Would purchasing this constitute a will to use it. Hmmm law - such a fine line it weaves.

It's not illegal to purchase it then you should have no issues. What you do with it behind closed doors is your business (assuming this is for private and personal use).

One may legally buy a gun, however firing it (even if none is hurt or killed; eg in a Firing room or at Sporting clubs) may be otherwise regulated. I think it's more or less the same regulation worldwide. I'm afraid for software other issues do matter, like the need for a software is the urge to use it (one cannot expose a software like a Papua-New Guinea spear or a Samurai sword in the living room). There are no other uses for software.

Has anyone done a careful comparison of the net pricing of the similar AnyDVD and DVDFab Passkey product lines? I say careful because: 1) One product line is priced in Euros, while the other is priced in U.S. dollars 2) One is offering a 20% discount, while the other is offering a 30% discount 3) One offers a product that handles both DVDs and Blu-ray discs, while the other is split into two separate products for DVDs and Blu-ray discs

It's nice that there are choices out there for people to decide on. If you like Slysoft, then by all means, buy their stuff. If you prefer Fengtao, then you can buy their products. As long as people got options on decrypting their legally bought and paid for movies, the market will decide who gets the lion's share of Euros or dollars: Slysoft or Fengtao.

I just had a look at Slysoft's price list, and I must say that they have become a little greedy lately. They want 109 EUR for AnyDVD-HD with unlimited updates (well, you get 20% off right now), but for this kind of money I can buy a BlueRay burner these days. My complete operating system costs far less. There is no doubt about the superior quality of their product, but at least for DVD there is a couple of free alternatives. And even for HD decrypting you have MakeMKV and Fengtao's free stuff which is still free for the time being. Conclusion: How many backups do you make? Decide for yourself if a decrypting application is really worth this much money... Cheers manolito
