Pulling Up songs for Music Video film shoot

Hello everyone, My client wants to make a playback CD for their music video film shoot. In order to compensate for the telecine pull-down, I need to create CDs that are already "pulled-up" for the shoot. One way of doing it is to import audio from the source CD, record it onto a DAT via Analog while Pro Tools is playing them in Pull Up mode, then re-load them back into Pro Tools digitally at 44.1 in normal mode. Instead of doing this, can I do the following for the same results? I figured that I can export the original sound files at 44.056, then change the files' sample rate stamps (not the actual SR) to 44.1, then burn a CD of it. When they play the CD at the shoot on any standard CD player, the 44.056 files are actually being playing back 0.1% faster @44.1. Does this make sense? Or would it be safer to go the DAT route?? Also, aside from Gallery's Sample Search, are there any shareware or freeware that can change the SR stamp in audio files? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

One more thing... How should I set the session Time Code while doing the pull up?? Trying to be logical, I would think that the session should be set at 29.97 for the CD audio import, and changed to 30FPS for the pull up to dump the audio onto DAT Analog. I'm not dealing w/ TC DAT or anything, so would this change in TC affect the actual playback speed?? (I don't think it does - unless I'm locked to external TC for some reason...) Thanks Again

Do you have to provide a time code track in addition to the playback track? If not, time code is rather irrelevant. That said, be extremely careful when playing with TC parameters. Certain time code settings may _assume_ certain pullup/down parameters and change them automatically. As for manipulating header information, Sound Hack is freeware and will do that. See Seems either method will work. I'd double check the header changing method, though. I've done #1; not #2. j

Thanks John! No, I don't have to provide the time code, just the audio tracks on CDs. So should I just disregard the TC setting and do the pull up in session set up window? Also, does that automatically put the USD in pull up mode as well? I am using video reference... I think I'll go with the first option... It seems a bit safer

I've never done it but this should work: Record the music analog into pro tools set to pull down mode giving you a 44.056 sound file. when pull down is turned off you get 44.1 playing .1% fast. Burn a CD of that file. When film is translated to video you get sync with the original CD with no Pull UP/Down.

The trouble with the CD playback is that it's not running "locked" to any source. You can't feed it video reference when you post. I think you do need timecode. Usually the timecode coming from the playback deck, either 1/4" Nagra or TC DAT feeds the timecode slate. Are you shooting film or video? If your shooting film you need to provide a DAT of the source which is "pulled up" to 30FPS from a 29.97 source. Use the 30FPS DAT at the shoot (if shooting film @ 24FPS) and use the 29.97 FPS DAT for post. Good luck
