While transferring from an analog tape to PTF, I noticed that the red clip light often came on, and after finishing the recording I zoomed in on the wave and could see that the signal had obviously been clipped. Is there any way in PTF to adjust the level at which the signal is recorded? Adjusting the faders changes only the playback level and not the recording level. There's no input fader on my iMic or I would use that. The gain in the sound manager is all the way down, and the switch on my iMic is set for line level input. John Link

Try this : Create an 'Aux Input' whos input is your source, and whos output is a bus, then make your 'Audio tracks' input be the same bus. The Aux Input fader will now control level to your audio track...
OntheHill, you are on the mark! Your suggestion works perfectly, and doesn't require any outlay for new hardware. The Shure pads look like a good idea except that they have XLR connections on both ends and cost $45.62 each. Thanks, John Link

What kind of sound card are you using? Many sound cards will have some kind of "input" level control under the multimedia section of the control panel (or the little yellow speaker in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, if it's there). You need to tell the sound card (hardware)to record at a lower level, not PTF (software). Peter
Sorry, I just gave you detailed instructions on how to fix this problem on a PC! On a mac, I think you can go into the control panel for sounds and click on the input section, where you can adjust the level. Peter
