Urgent- DigiTech - 6042 Errors

MessageAuthor

I am trying to resolve a problem of reoccuring -6042 errors for a client with a Powermac 8600. We installed an Atto EPCI-DC scsi card in his last slot. Digi 001 Resides in the first slot, with the middle slot empty. Atto card is set to Digi recommended settings, Atto Extension/ Control Panel has been removed. All other system settings are as recommended. We get reoccuring -6042 erros in both Logic4.1 and ProTools LE, so it appears to be DAE related. Our dealer seemed to think that the 8600 PCI buss just wasn't up to handling the traffic created by a scsi accelerator and the digi 001 card. We were also getting -6042 errors with a drive on an adaptec 2930 card with a narrow device connected. Just looking for a solution or next area to attempt troubleshooting. Thanks Mike Purcell

RE: Urgent- DigiTech - 6042 Errors

Resolved the problem - ended up probably being a combination of the following - in Atto Express Pro Tools, we set the PCI Burst Rate to 32 Bytes, and dropped the speeds on the scsi busses down to (10)5. We also discovered that when Atto Cards have an internal drive connected to them, the automatic scsi termination selection is not correct. Depending on what configuration of internal and external drives that you are using, you have to change the term settings in the Atto ProTools app - which updates the ROM on the scsi card. Even with the scsi bus speed stepped down to the lower setting, we got 24 tracks of 48k/24bit audio off of 2 drives... And both drives were on the same bus of the dual channel card... Hope this helps someone in the future. Another note - we had received reports from some sources that the interal PCI buss on an 8600 just would not handle the bandwidth... It can.
