Actually, Apple is claiming that all apps will function the same as they do in OS 9 in the "classic" mode of OS X (1 of 3 modes in OS X, the others being "carbon" which boasts the new features such as protected memory and preemptive multitasking, and "cocoa", an object-oriented programming enviroment). Although there is sure to be gliches, all "non-carbonized" apps should run in "classic".

it says so in the compatibility docs on this site i think. you have to boot your mac from the OS 9 startup disk if possible. if it's not possible you need another partition or disk with OS 9 and then choose OS 9 startup disk.

That's not OS X compatability, that's OS 9.
