MBox Distortion - Here\'s what I\'ve done + outcomes

Hey everyone, As mentioned in previous post, I can't even record one track without it coming out distorted! I've tried multiple suggested fixes, but to no avail. I thought I would describe in detail the steps I've done and the outcomes, in hopes that someone will recognize a pattern that I may be missing!! So first, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling; then disabling sound card; even tried running system in diagnostic setup (as suggested by tech). All to no avail. Here is a recap of last nights testing which nearly drove me to brink of insanity!! 1- tried recording at 128 buffer size. Made it through about 20 seconds of guitar recording, then got error -6086 (held off interruptions for too long; try increasing hardward buffer size). However for that wonderful 20 seconds of audio, the playback was clean!! 2- tried increasing buffer to 256. Made it through about 50 seconds this time, but then 6086 error again. Once again, audio was clear! (at this point i'm thinking wow, maybe i'm getting somewhere, as I have not heard clean audio playback in forever!) 3- tried increasing buffer to 512. Made it through about 2mins of song, then 6086 error. Playback again clear!! 4- Increased buffer to 1024. Made it about 40 seconds then got -9129 error (audio processing is conflicting with other cpu tasks. If this occurs often, reducing HW playback engine dialog may help prevent problem!!) Keep in mind I am doing this in diagnostic mode of computer, so i'm thinking there should be relatively little else running on this cpu!! However, audio was clear again!!! Oh glorious day! 5- Here's were it gets stranger: Did exact same thing (1024 buffer etc....) to just see if I would get same result. But this time, it stops midway with different error... the 6086 error!!! And now on playback, it is distorted again!!! So i start a new session and try all of the above AGAIN to see if there is a pattern. Nope, on each of the above examples this time, the playback was distorted. It seems to be distorted everytime i get a 6086 error. If i get a 9129 error, it seems to be clear most of the time, but at times it has been distorted! I'm not seeing any rhyme or reason to this, but I have to say, I am moments from a straightjacket!! If anyone has any suggestions, it would be GREATLY appreciated!!! thanks guys!

Please share your computer specs and PTLE version, it might give us some clues. Have you tried updating the firmware? Also try using a powered USB-hub. And last but not least, have you checked your CABLES?
RE: MBox Distortion - Here\'s what I\'ve done + outcomes
Thanks for reply. Firmware is updated (2.0). It is LE 6.7 (although I did try 6.4 as well, and same results. Computer is Dell P3 933mhz 384mb ram (definitely not optimum, but i've seen in other posts people using P3's and they work fine. I would think I could at least get one track anyhow). I really feel like it has something to do with the hardware buffer. Any help would be great!!!

I agree with that you should be able to record one track at least. I run a PIII myself and they're no longer supported by Digidesign but have worked like a charm for me. I'm no techie but maybe some of you computer gurus could chip in here and tell us if there are any known problems with the machine TDub uses?

<<It is LE 6.7 (although I did try 6.4 as well, and same results. Computer is Dell P3 933mhz 384mb ram>> Please double check on the RAM requirements, I seem to remember that last I checked 512 MB was minimum specification for Version 6.4 and forward.
