Can we do THIS in Reaper already...[Yes, we can...]

I've had a FR way back in 07. It's a basic, "Ableton LIVE" like functionality to record/build a midi loop. It can be done via mouse drawing notes in MIDI Editor, but if I record via MIDI keyboard, it automatically stretches loop length, therefor ruining it. With all the improvements since then, is there a way to do it alternatively? Link to original FR: I can hardly believe no one is missing this functionality!!

YES! I want this! I have wanted this previously and I will want it in the future! I think a good possible way of implementing it would be to have it so "Record: MIDI Overdub Existing Items" actually notices that the item you've got is looped beyond its end point, and records each bar, say, so it repeats until the very end of the item. I wanted to do this and that was the first way I tried, expecting that REAPER might surprise me.

Select a region in the timeline first for the length of the desired loop, then make sure the track is set to Midi: Overdub (as was mentioned above). But I think it would be cool to have a Record button in the midi editor also, as well as a keybinding to delete midi notes...
