mobo BIOS help please....

can you help? i have: asus p5ld2 se mobo intel e2200 cpu i have downloaded updated BIOS which should allow use of the CPU i haven't put all this together yet (it is an ultra cheap upgrade - so bear with me) i need to know: as the mobo + CPU are not yet compatible do i run the mobo without the CPU (i don't have a compatible CPU)to flash the new BIOS? or do i have to have a CPU in there? i know this is the wrong way to do it but i made a mistake and can't afford any of the sensible alternatives looking forward dave

and not to beat a dead horse..( bad sight joke .. your avatar ) If you dont know if you need the Cpu in the mobo before flashing, I really WOULDN'T consider doing this. Take it to a shop that builds and repairs computers. Even experienced builders have ruined new Asus boards, their policies for Return of mobo's leaves something to be desired.

thanks guys but it was donated so no great loss and i have no cash or friends in computery places so i may as well learn by asking and messing.... i asked at the asus forums and it looks like even with the revised BIOS the board will not run that CPU so i'll just have to wait 'til i can afford one just thought it might be worth a go and i now know a bit about mobos and cpus where before i knew nothing ;-) dave

There is a trick you can use if you update a bios and the motherboard is dead but it requires either a floppy disc drive installed or the a bootable CD disc, The information is on here,

hey sheppola that's the kind of thing i was looking at installs bios from a floppy but it doesn't matter 'cos the asus man says no!!!! the board isn't compatible thanks for your help dave

It is possible to recover a none bootable mother board even without a CPU installed, I have used this method before for both AMI and other BIOS.On one occasion I had to wait over an hour for it to work but it did.This method does not rely on a CPU being installed :)
