I hope this thread won't get lost in the US voting craziness. I have been doodling with the reafir during the past few hours and was wondering how the hell could I automate the curves of the envelope. I would like to see a gradual change from one state into the other and again into a next one, etc. It seems to me that this is impossible to do in the current situation. What I was thinking was: A sort of layer on top of this interface with which we could set waypoints of envelope states. As an example I was thinking Audiomulch's metasurface. In Mulch you can set up parameters for a certain patch. Then you save this. Then you change as many parameters as you like and save those as well. Then do it again, as many times as you want. Within the metasurface (which is just some pixel space) you assign a certain x.y coordinate to represent state 1 (e.g. in the upper left corner). In the lower right corner you assign a x.y coordinate to represent state 2. Now when you move your mouse from the lower right to the upper left corner, all of the parameters are gradually shifting. Now suppose we make a certain curve in reafir (with as many points as we need) and save that. Then we design a different curve (for instance to remove an unwanted temporary hum) and save that again. And then use a metasurface to move from one state into the other. If a metasurface is too complicated a slider that can be moved to make the change from one save into the other would be fine as well. That way I can automate the position of the slider and have my automation.

Hi earlabs, In some cases your proposal would be very handy, but I doubt, that this will come to life in Reaper in the near future. There is another thing in your example that i can't figure out: Let's say in setup 1 of ReaFir you have 10 nodes in the graphical display and in setup 2 you just have 6. At some stage while crossfading 4 of them have to vanish into the nirvana of vanished nodes. This will most likely result in some undesirable effects. Couldn't you put in Reafir as item-FX, set it up and then make items of all parts containing the uwanted hum, select them, make the changes for all of them at once in ReaFir and at last do crossfades where needed? -Data

A metasurface would be too much for just a single plugin, really. ;) I'd take it to control the whole mixer/plugins state of Reaper, though! :D I've requested a similar thing for ReaFIR previously, didn't generate any interest from other users, though :( :
