I'm confused! How do I import vobs into MyDVD or Maestro?

Perhaps someone might contradict me, but I'm pretty sure you can't import VOB files into DVD Maestro or MyDVD. You are going to have to re encode, using CCE or TeMpeg. None of us like to re encode, but if the original movie is too big, then you don't have a choice. HomerJ

Well if your VOB files are small enough then you don't have to reencode the file, but you will need to demux the m2v, and ac3 file from the VOB's. and then remux them in Maestro, or Mydvd because these programs are unable to import VOB files. Smartripper is the easiest program to use to do a simple demux. Armyb77

Option #1 - If you want just the main movie If your main movie files are smaller than 4.37 gb, then just move them to another folder, use ifoedit to create new ifos and then get vts sectors and burn Option #2 - If you want original menus The you have to keep the original vts _0.vob file (ie. if your main movie vts set is vts_01, then you need to keep vts_01_0.vob). Also use IFOUpdate to update the ifos.

First of all, think re-encoding is a very bad idea, very time consuming, and your end result is of inferior quality(for HQ snobs)! What luke warm reward for the effort. So, the best scheme I came up with for spliting movie files for authering is to use ifoedit to split them (and strip a few streams), then use smartripper to demux them into usable files. But one question, DVD workshop still doesn't like these files. What am I doing wrong? DVDmaestro seems to have no problem with them.

OK, If you want to keep maximum "quality" and split your Movie, the best process is: Use Smartripper, Movie Mode, rip first half of chapters only. Use Ifoedit to get new Ifo set. Burn. Do the same as above, but 2nd half of chapters only. Use ifedit to get new Ifo set. Burn. Forget about using an authoring programme, it's not necessary. HomerJ :D

HomerJ, that is pretty slick, I use a simular method, but that is at least one hard drive transfer less than my method (which means at least 10 mins). I just wanted a way to append the 'Making of' vid file or deleted scenes, could i just rename them to run onto the second's dvd files (then ifoedit of course?) Or will the 2 diffent video streams cause problems when they connect after the credits?

Ghamu, To date, all I've done is main movies only. The only time I've done an extra, I burnt to a seperate disc. This way, I'm building up knowledge and experience as I go, as well as getting some pleasure for my efforts. If you want to get into extras, then you will need an authoring package, but most of these need "raw" video footage, (e.g *.avi files) rather than compressed MPEG2 files. Sorry I can't be more helpful. HomerJ :(
