Video Render Problem

Hi, I hope I'm posting this to the right thread. The problem is the following. I recently bought a Core2Duo E6600 processor, and an Asus Geforce 7300 GT. (Before: P4 3ghz, Gigabyte 7300 GS). Everything else is the same. With the new things I can't view any media (xvid, x264, wmv) on VMR9 Renderer (using Windows XP), because it has the tearing effect. I manage to solve this using other renderers, like EVR, or Overlay, but I need that WMR9 because of nice looking subs. I tried Reclock, nvidia vmr9 fix, Mplayerc's Lock Back Buffer, using other players, but nothing worked. I only installed XP 4 days ago with all the updates, the forceware driver is the latest (163.75), directx updated to 2007.11, I'm not tunnig the CPU or the VGA. 'Unfortunatelly' the VGA works perfectly with other things, games, and it uses vsynch correctly, but not with the vmr9 renderer. So I cant return my VGA to the shop. The only codec I install is xvid (1.3.3) and ffdshow (2007.11.14). I dont know what information do you need, but please ask, if I missed something. So, is it: 1, the card, so should I buy an other one, if so, any recommendations? 2, the driver, so should I wait for nvidia? 3, sounds stupid, but the Core2Duo? 4, or else, please specify? - Miryan

With haali (1.7.359.22), I've got same results, and somehow it draws some pixels randomly to the edge and other places of the screen. With custom EVR i still have the tearing. 'Normal' EVR works fine. VGA change, no, but I had to. Its long and stupid, I dont want to bore you. That was a wrong trade, yes. ;)

Maybe its some custom EVR option? Now: Surface is 3D, Resizer is Bicubic A=-1.00 (PS 2.0) Lock Back chekked, EVR Buffers: 5. edit: Looks not, I tried various combinations.

Hum, set the refresh rate of your screen to 60hz (if you have an LCD you won't see any flicker anyway) and try again. also try the direct 3D fullscreen option for evr custom and vmr9.

TFT is Samsung 205BW, and on 60 hz, and in native resolution. D3D Fullscreen option works, subs are nice too, but with that I cant change mpc into window mode.

Things are getting "fixed". Maybe try some older or even video drivers, and you've installed the chipset drivers right? I think this doesn't matter but you're using DVI right? During playback to close the video use "CTRL+C" hotkey. P.S.=>Wide screen rules! I have a LG L204WT.

A new thought. Do you think its possible that a Windows Vista install solve this problem?

I had the same problem some time ago with my ATI card, it would drop frames like crazy in VMR9, causing tearing. After miserably failing to fix this with by trying different settings in MPC, VMR9 and DirectX, I just tried different set of drivers and then I found drivers that worked perfectly with VMR9/Haali. Maybe nvidia then has done the same thing and breaked HW video rendering in the drivers that you are using. My suggestion is in other words for you to try different drivers for you 7300 GT. If that doesn't solve the issue, then I don't really know what the problem is... Maybe then the 7300 GT just isn't fast enough for hardware video rendering? Or perhaps, are you using multi-monitor setup? This always leads to tearing in video for me.

Kado: I have 2 gb ram, and I really not want to change to vista. ;) No multi monitor, and with my older card (Gigabyte 7300 GS) everything was smooth, and this new one even has more ram, so I dont really understand what is the problem. Older drivers, good idea, I'm searching.

Can you get hold of an X1300 or X300 to test against? Actually I'm not sure if X300 is even supported by current drivers. Basically just some cheap ATI card you can borrow to test the rendering on, to save the expense of acquiring a 8000-series. (Since all cards within the same family should behave the same, ie, the GS, though it can't hurt to throw it back in.) One thought, perhaps it's the subs themselves causing the problem? It doesn't really make sense, but you could work around it by using VSFilter or ffdshow in Overlay mode. Have VSFilter/ffdshow resize before adding the subs, so you still get that nice high-res gloss; you have the CPU to do it easy.
