Audio playback issues

Hi Guys, I'm Adam. First post - hope you can help! I've heard a lot of good things about this forum. Okay, I'm still in evaluation mode and struggling to get anywhere with setup. If I open an iTunes track in Win Media Player or Audacity my sound card makes it sound beautiful. If I import the same track into Reaper it sounds really rough - thin and tinny and reverby and slidey. I've tried many many different setups in the project settings and audio device preferences/options and, except for adding pops and crackles sometimes, nothing changes. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong, please? Many thanks Adamskibruce - Win7 64bit Corei7 3.4GHz 16GB RAM SoundBlaster X-FI Titanium - Want to use Reaper to compose and produce electronica and classical tracks using VST synths

RE: Audio playback issues

Was just about to go dejectedly to bed and stumbled across the answer. Not even sure where this was, but in the ?FX monitoring window? there was a JS guitar/chorus filter. Removed that and now we're cooking with gas! Perhaps someone with some more experience can tell me where I got that from, especially as it didn't seem to render with that FX in the test I ran. Cheers AB
