Neither original movies with best PC DVD players (using standard AR) usually looks with right aspect ratio, try to find spherical parts in your movie (sun, wheels...) then tune your AR to the *real* 1:1. It's the perfect fitting method ;). To do things easily, another (my) method is to divide Y (cropped is usually ~432 for 2.35:1 movies) by 1.42222222 fixed factor and round by nearer mod 16 (this is called relative stretch). 1.4222222 = 576/(720*9/16) (PAL movies) P.S.: Gordian Knot (ITU Recommendation) hinted value sometimes results too aggressive (spherical objects become elliptical, but this may compensate watching TV-out due to non-square pixel)
