S70 wing mirror no left/right movement

Hello to all Some g*t has just hit my driver wing mirror, smashed the glass which I have replaced but I have no left/right movement. I took the glass off again and I see that there are two white, inch long rods with a ball on the end forming a ball/socket joint and are moved by cogs to move the mirror. The left/rightie has had the ball snapped off and although the ball happened to be lodged inside the mirror shell, glueing it on was not succesful. A local parts chappie tells me he can supply a spare but how easy are they to fit? It doesnt just pull out or wind out with the movement button depressed so I assume I have to take some of the mirror mechanics outta the shell to do this?
