AMD VS. P4

i'm gonna get a new computer soon... and i have mixed feelings... should i get an AMD setup such as an xp1800 or a P4 setup, like a 1.7 GHZ perhaps with RDRAM... any info would be greatly appreciated.... im gonna run Win 2000 i guess, and im using the DIGI 001 setup... thanx

The AMD system is the way to go here. You will not be able to use Win2000 with PTLE though. You will need WinME or 98SE. WinXP support is coming soon. I'd recommend sticking with the AMD761 chipsets in the following motherboards: A7M266 GA7DX Abit KG7 Micron or Corsair 512MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM I also recommend using the Promise ATA100 TX2 controller card for your audio drives. I agree with Allen, stick with that list of Motherboard/CPU/Memory combos and you will be very happy. The Asus A7M266 works great and I had that board for a few months, but it only has 2 slots for ram...I switched to the Abit KG7 and it has the same chipset but has 4 slots for Ram making it more expandable,up 4 gigs of PC2100 DDR 266 Ram. With Windows XP support on the horizon, Pentium 4 users will finally be at peace. You should see the performance difference even out.
