Thanks for the description. There's maybe some confusion about the terms used, so can't quite tell what is going on. First, VST or in this case probably VSTi (virtual instruments) are something you would have inserted on your Reaper tracks, not something that your external synth has. So if you would want to play those VSTis, you only need the MIDI output from your synth into Reaper, nothing else. If you see MIDI being recorded into those two tracks, you should be fine in that regard, no external cabling changes needed. And if you didn't change the MIDI channels and settings in your VSTis, you should hear both playing back as well, just like when you recorded the MIDI. Maybe you could verify that you really did hear both VSTis playing when you were recording? If you have any audio cables coming out of your hardware synth, disconnect them. They are not needed for the MIDI output and will only confuse the setup at this point. After that, play your synth and see that both VSTis you have set up in Reaper will respond to that.
