PAL & NTSC on same DVD5 ??????

well ak47, persuaded by your persistance I made such an image of mixed system sources and guess what. It loaded OK in my Philips, played the Pal section OK but it sucked upon NTSC one. In a Affrey LD1020 it refused to play at all. This is odd however cause this standalone has pc ide cable and a Pioneer dvd-1017 in. In my pc it played the PAL OK and managed to play the NTSC part with a ton of hickups. So I guess that it isn't a viable solution. At least for me. I would rather undergo the fuss of transcoding NTSC to Pal and be in the safe side than having a hybrid disc that would play according to its will.

odyseuss... I agree.. this structure is some kind of hybrid and might well perform unpredictably.. depending on hardware... but I would point out that I never suggested that it's ideal, or without problems.. just that it is possible.. and that I had seen it commercially on several occaisions... to be honest I can't really grasp why they do it.. especially on the title mentioned..

I quite agree with u. I ve been in the pc realm almost 25 years now and I come to believe that everything is possible and that always there is a trick to fool a computer to do what u want. That said, the expression 'can't be done' actually means that 1. it wont be stable, 2. too difficult, 3. Not worth it 4. Result/time needed isn't worth it, etc. In this case I think that 4 is applicable.
