The rule of the default theme is 'text wherever possible' so newcomers don't have to learn & remember what 'squiggle' means... but its not possible on the toolbar because they resize. A lot. So, icons it must be. Scissors : good suggestion. More! More!
Hi aMUSEd- They go in the theme folder ("C:\Program Files\REAPER3A2\ColorThemes\Default" here), and yes, you can select the tool you don't need and assign "(hide)" to it, or customize it to perform a different action with a different icon. Very flexible! :) -Susan
For one, the toilet gets my vote, im gonna use it for 'restart recording : stop, undo, record' (ie. that was crap, start again). :D For generic icons, maybe just simply numbers 1-10 (in addition to the currently used ones)???
Maybe this is a really stupid question (I can be dense at times) but why not "ship" them all? I understand that you can only *use* 24 at a time but does that limit the selection of those 24 to 24? Put 'em all in there. This is the 'land of the huge dialog' after all, ;) let the user choose 24 of 100 (or a directory full of icons) or whatever to use on the toolbar.

yep I use a theme with 3 chars of text in the buttons and this works best for me - lots of icons would be fun and all but take time to choose, time to learn etc etc. so +1 for text buttons...
