Major disaster

My first major disaster with the music computer, I tried to load up Reaper this morning and it wouldn't respond, when it did, it wasn't receiving Midi from my X-Board, and it wouldn't let me go into the preferences to check things, everything became greyed out, with one page over the top of another, then about a minuit later it appeared, but all seemed well in the preferences. I reloaded the X-Board software and nothing improved, I tried a few of my other stand alone VSTi's and they wouldn't work either, no Midi or audio recognized at all, and the same with my other audio programs. I then did a system restore, which didn't improve things. I'm at a loss as to what to do ? I dont want to have to completely re-install, I wondered if anyone had any ideas ? Sometimes when I restart the computer Reaper will load, but it takes about 5 min's to pop up ? It is very hot here today, the hottest day of the year, about 34c I am going to let things cool down and see what happens. ARP.

Have a computer where I work that gets loaded with dust and acts up. You should see all the crap that comes out of it. Aeroduster wouldnt cut it there. We take it outside open it up and use a air tank. But we dont care about it much either. You might have other problems.

RE: Major disaster

Hi, this computer hardly gets used, it may be 6 years old, but if it were a car it would have about 10,000 miles on the clock. I opened it up and it's extremely clean inside, like new, also, the fan wasn't dirty at all, the board, processor fan and video card were also clean. I think I can put this crash down to possibly two things, something happened when I deleted the Wave's plug-in's, or it was simply the hot weather, it was actually 34 degrees here in central London UK yesterday. I'd like to see a 34c day here in the southeastern USA! It was 107 a few days ago that's like 42C. 100F degrees plus temperatures are normal here for at least 3 months out of the year. You don't have air conditioning in London?
