Will the chavs hurt my baby?

MessageAuthor

Hello, I'm new around here. I've previously owned a volvo 940 and now an 850; but am in the process of buying a lovely looking C70 convertible. Having never owned a pretty car (the estates were a bit beat up when I bought them), I was never too worried about some layabout keying it in a carpark, however, with a convertible imminent I am finding myself panicing - have I just let myself in for a world of trouble? Where I live/work it will be fine, but what I am wondering about is normal city parking. Going to a restaurant and leaving it in on an average street. Do any of you existing C70 owners have any experience? Am I going to be crying over knife attacks on the soft-top and spit on the bonnet? Apologies if this sounds naive, I just have no idea what it's like to own a nice car.

Don't scare yourself. Your car may or may not be targetted. Insure it fully comp just in case, but I wouldn't worry otherwise it will just eat away at you and stop you from enjoying your new motor. I don't know about vandalism statistics, but did you know that casual thieves are more likely to target older crap cars? They are seen as having less security features and they stand out much less than decent cars.

i'm with him on this old cars are targetted much more as they are easier to get into and take to be honest the only reason any one would target a car like yours is if it is steal to order and then you dont have to worry about damage as they will get in with out damaging it and take it never to be seen again best thing you can do is get a cat 1 alarm fitted and a tracker and this will also reduce your insurance too and then you have total peace of mind but doubt you have anything to worry about with your car as merc's and bmw's are more sort after these are very much an under estimated car and different i dont think i have ever seen one on the road

Thanks for your advice chaps. I will take your advice and try to calm myself a little. I wasn't so much worried about theft; more about vandalism. Is a soft-top car an invite to the drunk teens that wander the streets? I've often come back to a car to find the wing mirror has been bent backwards - well that's not a major problem, you just rotate it back. I suspect that you are both correct, I am just being paranoid, I don't suppose there is any more reason to torture a soft top than a hard top.
