Unable to burn Bin/Cue files using any method including foolproof

MessageAuthor

Hello. Sorry for the length of this post, but I want to be thorough. I am having no luck in burning an SVCD after using Dvd2svcd. I hope someone can help me. Here are my system specs: Win98se 800 mhz PIII 256k ram Sony CRX100E Recordable Drive I have updated my ASPI layer with Forceaspi (VCDEasy says Aspi seems ok: Yes) I have successfully created a virtual drive with Daemon Tools. The SVCD files play fine in WinDVD. Unfortunately, I am unable to burn it. I have tried a direct cd copy from the virtual drive to my cd recorder using both Nero v.5.5.7.8 and the Sony CD Right! software that came with my burner. Both times, the process seemed to be going along fine until the very end. Sony software says something to the effect of "unable to communicate with source drive" (or something like that). After apparently recording for a long time, Nero says: "Illegal mode for this track" "Could not perform end of disc at once" "Invalid writestate" "Burn process failed" I have also tried burning the bin/cue files with VCDEasy. Similar results. The process takes what appears to be the right amount of time but at the end, my recorder locks up and the process fails. Using VCDEasy option to unlock drive does not always work. I must reboot to remove disc (which is still blank). I know the recorder is working because I used it after that to do a test record from some data on my hard drive (on one of the discs from a a failed SVCD recording attempt). I am not running any power management stuff, virus programs, firewalls, screen savers. I hope I posted this message properly. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Chris

First to try is to autor the .mpg files (if you have them still) in VCDEasy and then to burn the resulting cue/bin. You should add the chapters though. There is small GUI for CDRDao that come with VCDEasy, the name is XDuplicator, Google search will show were to download. Try to copy with this from the virtual drive (the chances are low that it will work where Nero failed). Well, good luck... P.S. Are you try to overburn? Look if you burner support overburning - a friend of mine have also Sony burner (don't remember the model) that doesn't support overburning.

Tried burning the individual mpgs that were created by DVD2SVCD and they didn't record either (same thing....went through the process but in the end blank discs). Also tried Xduplicator, which I learned about that after searching the boards for five days ;) Thanks for the reply! Any more help greatly appreciated Chris

Blank discs! Hmm, I should ask you do you know that there are two (2) places on VCDEasy where you should uncheck "Simulate" - one is on the Main screen right side, where your burner is listed (here you should check "Burn"), the other is on "Tools">"CDRDao tools" under the line with the name of the burner(I think). I have had issues when one of the places is checked, the other unchecked - VCDEasy freezes after burning.

I know I have Simulate unchecked at least once on VCDEasy. I will double-check when I get home from work. I have a feeling that is not the problem, for a did a test burn of an Mpeg-1 file since then in VCDEasy with no problem. Could it have something to do with trying to make SVCDs? I have had wonderful sucess with standars VCDs in the past. This has honestly been my first attempt at making SVCDs. Thank you for your help! Chris

I guess you are trying to burn 80min CD-Rs ... if your burner's firmware rev. is <1.0N, this burner goes into simulation mode automatically if you are trying to burn more than 78:30 min. There is some info about that on cdr-info, I believe, and also here at feurio.com: (only partially in English, basically they say you should send the burner to Sony for a firmware update, they don't officially distribute firmware upgrades).
