Editing a midi file

Advertising

MessageAuthor

I've recently created some instrument parts in Musescore, which I then exported to a midi file to use in Reaper with Proteus VX. The problem I'm having is that the midi file is retaining the volume levels and panning information that I used in Musescore. I'd like to change this, but no matter what I do, it always goes back to the original settings. I've unchecked the 'receive program changes' box in Proteus' preferences menu thinking that might help, but to no avail. Is there any way to edit a midi file's information directly, maybe within Reaper itself? Thanks in advance.

RE: Editing a midi file

With the midi file loaded in REAPER, open the midi item in the midi editor. At the bottom left ( Red arrow in the pic ) you'll see a drop-down box, any of the events that have an * beside then are active and will be sending messages to your vsti ( pan, volume change etc ) Select the one you don't want to effect your midi and they will be shown in the lane to the right of the dropdown box. Now just delete the pan or volume info and it will no longer send those mesages to the vsti. Now you'll be able to set vol, pan etc in the vsti and it will keep the settings you choose. Cheers

Thanks Wolffman! That was seriously beginning to do my head in. Such a simple solution, too!
