DVD freezes at first second.

MessageAuthor

I have a brand new sony dvp ls785v. The problem is the movies I have encoded with DVD2SVCD in AVI2DVD mode freezes at the first second. When I search for the timecode 00:00;02 on my remote control the movie plays fine all the way through. I can't use the fast forward button, so if I want to watch the movie I'll have to search to 00:00;02. This happens only on DVD's with mp2 audio. AC3 plays fine, and I always convert the audio when an AVI contains mp3. The DVD with mp2 audio plays fine in my Cyberhome 505. When I load the MPlex_Muxed_File00.mpg in TMPG DVDauthor the movie plays fine without freezing. So I think that in the authoring stage of DVDAuthor.exe there must be something goin' wrong. I have also tried the latest DVDautor.exe. It's not a very big problem but maybe someone can fix it. Thanks PB

RE: DVD freezes at first second.

setarip_old, Thanks for the reply I have no doubts that the videofiles created by DVDAuthor aren't within the DVD standard. Maybe my SONY just don't like the files created by the program. There are other SONY players that play the DVD's flawless.(tested myself) I have tried 3 different authoring programs and feed it with the same MPlex_Muxed_File00.mpg and they all work perfect. Anyhow I have the luck DVD2SVCD does have support for another authoring program. So the whole process can still be automated. And my problem is solved. ;) But if anyone find a solution for DVDAuthor.exe I will be glad to hear. Regards PB

RE: DVD freezes at first second.

I believe this is to do with a couple of flags in the IFO's being set incorrectly by DVD2SVCD/DVDAuthor for us in PAL land. If you open the two IFO's (in IFOEDIT) you might see the "Menu" settings in both are NTSC and MPEG-1, this does absolutely nothing bad when played on the vast majority of DVD players, since it's only a couple of irrelevant flags, but of course there are exeptions. I have been changing the previously mentioned flags to PAL MPEG-2 since I encountered the same freezing problems on a couple of DVD players (not sony's either :p ).

I have had the same problem and what you said in the first post prompted me to try something which worked. I demultiplexed the streams from a DVD which had problem and converted the mp2 to ac3. Better still if you had retained all the files from the working of avi2svcd, you would till have the wave file. Then used a program called ffmpeggui to convert to AC3. Then used the same authoring program (I use DVDlab-pro) to author a new DVD. No more freezes, which lead me to believe that it is the sound which is causing the issue Another option is to use a different program to convert the sound. There is a program called sweethead (not supported by DVD2SVCD) which allows the use of headac3he instead of besweet as the audio conversion program in DVD2SVCD. Also read somewhere that Mp2 is not a supported sound format in NTSC discs. While most player will play it happily, maybe this was the problem.
