Hi MisterX Preparing files for IC7 using your guide 'removing VOB ID's from PGC'. Questions: Why is the step with IFOupdate necessary and what does it actually do ? why not just copy the new IFO in the strip dir to the original directory and overwrite original IFO, and furthermore shouldn't be the vob and other files in the strip directory by copied to the original directory, just as you describe in your other guides ? thx for taking the time to answer these question, just want to understand the logic behind it. rgds Jippie
which guide? #8? I use Ifoupdate to maintain the original amount of PGC's cos Ifoedit removes them when you strip VOB ID's and upsets the structure unless there is a manual way to insert a program/cell into a blank PGC but every time I tried Ifoedit just crashed, so I didn't bother finding a simple method there will be other easier methods but I ain't come across any (cos I never looked :)) cos I'm happy doing it that way cos it takes seconds I'm playing with DVDShrink at the mo, cos it has some handy tools you can use previous to using IC, but I'm still playing at the moment, cos although I'm not gonna use it for my compression I can still use it for other things :)

no problem but questions for the method you describe here: Questions: Number 1: Why is the step with IFOupdate necessary and what does it actually do ? why not just copy the new IFO in the dir with stripped files to the original directory and overwrite original IFO as you describe in the other guides. Number 2: if you have done the ifoupdate step should i not copy the vob and other files in the directory with stripped files to the original directory, just as you describe in your other guides ? In this guide you do not mention if this is required or not Hope this is more clear
Thats an amazing resemblance! I'll deal with you later Arianos!!! jippiejajee (ughh!) You only need the Ifoupdate step if you have a Titleset with multiple PGC's and you are removing the last vob of the set Example - PGC 1 - 1 vob Left intact PGC 2 - vob 2, 3 to strip PGC 3 - vob 4 to strip If you strip vob 2 and 3 IC will accept it, but it will not if you strip vob 4 because its the last vob of the set. Use the Ifoupdate method for these. BTW - Fussy players WILL NOT accept missing Titles regardless of which vob's you strip. I have a Philips like this - I must use Ifoupdate for all PGC's / Titles where I strip out their vobs
DVDManiac thx for reply, think I got it now. In the guide as made by MisterX describing your method it was not 100% clear but he modified it now to make it more clear how it works, but still think the vob's from the strip directory should be copied over and overwriting the old ones cos these are the stripped one with the removed vob id's, or does ifoupdate copies over the stripped vob's automatically ? anyhow thx again for try to explain to me Jippie

You are right - usually you use Ifoupdate to update the original IFO's with part of the new structure data from the authored ones. The reason you are doing it the other way round is that you want to maintain the original VTS_PGCITI table data while importing the new video/audio pointers (the physical vob's are NOT copied/moved - just the ifo tables). If you have an original multi PGC structure and you strip out full PGC's you will loose vital elememts of VTS_PGCITI - thats where the IC errors come up. One thing you will notice is that when IC does its prescan of the structure it will see the original size of any multi PGC titles you have stripped and Ifoupdated - don't know why but it does not seem to matter as the actual vob's are not there any more so IC cannot keep them in the output. I have done this with quite a few now and the resulting output size is the usual IC lottery - I use 4.77GB as my output target and normally come in or around the 4.38GB mark which I usually polish up with DVD2One if required. Good lucK!
