PTLE Mac -> PTLE Windows conversion questions

MessageAuthor

Hello all, I have some sessions that were just done on a Mac with PTLE 5.1.1. I foolishly assumed that I would be able to open the sessions on my new PC Digi setup with LE 5.3.1. However, no such luck. I just get the error message about the session not being created with Mac/PC compatibility enforced. In the meantime, the guy I did the original sessions with has upgraded his machine and can no longer run 5.1.1 on his new OSX system. So he has to upgrade to 6.0 anyway. So the question is, first, he'll be able to open all his old stuff from 5.1.1 on his new 6.0 setup correct? And then second, can he resave the sessions in 6.0 in such a way that I will be able to open them on my WinXP (5.3.1) box? Alternatively, do any of you PT geniuses out there know another way for me to open these sessions (they're LE 5.1.1 48khz/24 bit sessions burned on DVD-R) on my PC? thanks, Josh

RE: PTLE Mac -> PTLE Windows conversion questions

PT6 is backward compatible, and will open PT 5 sessions with no problems. Do a save as, save as PT5 session, and enforce Mac/PC compatiblilty. You can import the audio files inot a new session. Create a new PT session with the same parameters (file type, bit depth and sample rate) and import the files from the import command in the edit windows audio menu. Using spot mode, drag ethe files to the appropriate tracks you're created in the session, and align to original time code. If there are alot of regions, particularly unused regions, this can be quite time consuming if you don't have proper documentation. Hope this is helpful.

Josh, If the original audio files are SDII, you will not be able to import them or convert them on a Windows machine. As suggested open the session on the Mac system and do a "Save Session Copy In" and enforce Mac/PC compatibility which will convert the audio files to .WAV or AIFF. It will also rewrite the session documant so you will be able to open it on your Windows XP system. I hope this helps. Mike

RE: PTLE Mac -> PTLE Windows conversion questions

OK here's another conversion problem... please help: 24-bit PT files burned on a Mac as aiff files in Toast ("Standard ISO"). They will show up in Windows with the little Windos icon or Windows Media Player Icon. It is understandable that they do not play in the media player, as they are 24 bit, but here's the problem: they will not import into Sonar (2.2XL), (and neither in Soundforge cuz that's only 16 bit, right?). Anybody know how to get legit aiff/ISO PT files to load on a PC? Thanks, Jerome.
