gordian knot not processing wav file

MessageAuthor

Some of the dvds that i rip don't have ac3 files compressed with them, only wav file(s) (which are extracted when performing the "dvd2avi" step). Gordian Kot doesn't seem to process wav files when one is compressing the movie (GK seems to only process / accept mp3,ac3 or mpa audio input files).** Can any one enlighten me as to how to get GK to process the wav file when compressing the movie? .... or is there any alternative way of converting the wav file to ac3, mp3 or mpa prior to compressing the movie? ** I find that when the audio input file is a wav file, the compressed movie "comes out" with no sound.

@jamlerric It would seem, from your description, that you inadvertantly selected "decode" rather than "demux" in dvd2avi. You shouldn't be getting wav files as output if you use demux.

No, you can still obtain your "optimal" -.- size when compressing the audio separately. I personally encode Audio ALWAYS separately (I get sometimes asynch sound just because of encoding video & audio simultaneously!). In the bitrate Tab of GKnot just give the mp3 bitrate you wanna use and choose the right options to get the appropriate video bitrate. There is no reason you get a different size, and if you get a different size, it will be in the range of +/- 5MB, so nothing serious -.-

So, DJ Bobo, if I understand correctly the following statement that you made, re. "In the bitrate Tab of GKnot just give the mp3 bitrate you wanna use and choose the right options to get the appropriate video bitrate." ... then, to compress the video without the audio, the settings would be : under "Bitrate" tab, choose "Audio A" to be a bitrate of whatever you want to encode the audio with *later*, say 128kbps, then, under "Interleaving & AVI-Overhead (1 %) section of the "Bitrate" tab, choose the option "no audio" and then the video should come out at the optimal video file size, afterwhich one encodes the audio to hopefully get a movie at around 700mbs (if that was one the optional target file size desired)
