Hey, folks. I have a critical non-reaper question. Need help fast: I am installing a stripped version of Windows XP32, that I got elsewhere. The The installer is asking me what TYPE of pc I have. I've never seen this before, (not with full versions of Windows) and don't know which choice to pick. The choices are: Standard PC Standard pc with C-Step i486 (WTF?) MPS uniprocessor PC ACPI PC ACPI uniprocessor PC. Other. What should I select? I'm running a standard Asus mobo with an Intel Q9650 cpu. I'm using Sata II drives, of course, so I'm guessing "ACPI PC" but I sure don't want to be wrong on this.
I don't think you can go far wrong with ACPI Cable, although if it's for a daw you will almost certainly configure power management to be everything permanently on anyway.

Choose ACPI.In windows it is also bundled with the APIC protocols that handle the extra software IRQs required by modern devices.I don't think it matters about if it's a ,"Uni" processor" but I'm not sure on that.

Interesting. It sounds like these HAL choices are from the Windows 2000 era. It also soundslike getting it right is very important. Ughhh. Well, thanks.
HAL was around before that even as far back as win95.If there was a problem it usually showed up with DirectX installations among other things.I wouldn't worry and just choose either of the last two options in the MS list as they load the same.
