Adding items to take lanes

Say you have one item on a track, and a take folder on a different track. How would you add the item into the take folder? Is exploding and imploding the only way? Related question, can you alter the lane items of a take folder without exploding and imploding? Like say you wanna move one take a smidge but keep the others the same, or shorten the tail or something. I know Logic does this (incredibly glitchy) I wanna see if Reaper has a way. Thanks
