AVI2DVD with DTS/DD 5.1

MessageAuthor

Hi guys. Here is what I want to do. I have Lord Of The Rings Two Towers. The filename says perfect quality but I am pretty sure it is Divx. What I want to do is convert the movie so I can burn it to DVD but I want it to be in DTS/DD 5.1(preferably DTS but either one is fine). Is this possible to do. If so can you guys tell me what programs I need to do it and where I can find a tut. on how to do it. Also it is 2 files(both are same quality). Is there anyway I can merge the two files so I don't have to burn 2 DVD's. Thanks for your help.

If it is a divx then there is no need to make your audio DTS or DD 5.1 as it won't improve the quality. If the files are Avi then you could try Canapus Procoder, you should be able to find a demo of it if you search on google. I played around with it a bit and was able to convert some avi clips to dvd compliant MPEG2 streams.

try opening it in VirtualDub and see which format the audio is. If it says "Unknown (tag 2000)" under Compression under the audio part, then it's AC3. If it's AC3, then just demux it from the avi file and convert the avi file with CCE or TMPGEnc. and then mux the ac3 file into the mpeg file afterwards. If it's just mp3, then use BeSweet to convert it to mp2 and mux it into the mpeg file, no reason to convert it to ac3 if it's mp3, won't do anything besides waste space.

Thanks but I don't know hoe to use that Besweet program. Plus once I ripped the audio with virtualdub(it says it can only rip it to a WAV) what program do I use to convert it DTS and such? Also are there any other ways to change it to DD/DTS 5.1 if it is mp3 without using that besweet program? Thanks.

Have you verified that the audio track on your movie is already .ac3 or dts? IF the person that converted it to Divx compressed the audio to mp3 or similar than ur stuck. If however they did as i used to do when making divx movies and use the full dd5.1 soundtrack u can strip that with virtual dub. If i am not mistaken where it says save as wav just manually change the extension to .ac3 and strip the audio. It has been a long time since messing with divx, if your not sure how to use vDub someone who still works with might be able to jump in and help you.

Ok Thanks. I guess I will have to mess around with it to get it to work. One more question though. It is 2 files. Is there anyway I can merge the 2 avi files so it plays straight through and I don't have to burn 2 discs. Thanks for all you help
