i have a roland xp80 going int o my mpc 2000xl(midi handshake method) the xp80 keyboard goes into midi in 1 and out midi out A on the mpc. my mpc uses output B and input 2 to connect with digi 001. Now i can make a beat but cannot record the notes into protools. should i have maybe sent mpc midi out B to the xp80s in and then use the xp80s thru port to connect to midi in port on 001? help me please.

Is Pro Tools correctly set for MIDI? Forgetting the MPC for the moment, what happens if you plug the MIDI output of your XP-80 directly to the Digi001 MIDI input? Can you record notes played from the XP-80? Just trying to determine if it's a MPC issue or a Pro Tools/OMS/MIDI routing issue. Phil

Ok, then it's not a Mac/ProTools/OMS/Digi001 problem (assuming you've got your MIDI track input set to 'all' or the MIDI channel you're inputing from). I'm not to familiar with the MPC, but I can only think that if it's got a MIDI A and B output, and A is happily playing your XP-80, then the MPC is not set correctly to output it's sequence from the B port. That might be an internal setting, or you need to copy the MIDI track on the A side over to one of the B MIDI tracks. Once again, I'm not up with the MPC, so apologies if that doesn't seem right, but it is a 32 track sequencer, right? That is, with 32 tracks divided into two independent sets of 16 (ie. A and B)? set up like this.... mpc out 1a > keyboard in keyboard out > mpc in 1a ok now the digi 001 keyboard thru > digi in assuming it has midi thru... if not then theres probably a parameter you can change and set it to out or thru. basicaly whut this set up is doing is sequencing on the mpc then sending the messages to your xp back and forth and with the thru the same message that your mpc is sending to your xp is routed to the 001 there for your notes can be recorded... now this is just the set up... pt has to be set accordingly also input midi channel 1,2,3 etc and your oms has to be set up with your mpc and keyboard in the chain...its a lil confusing but once you have it setup the editing is crazy dope
