question Re: Gain (Audiosuite)

MessageAuthor

If I take a Multi Mono stereo track in Ptools (HD v.5.3) and perform a Gain reduction in Audiosuite.... is it the same as just taking the master fader and bringing it down by the same db level. I want to do this so I do not have to reprint my stereo mix again. Figure it would save some time not to do it in real time. Will the gain reduction in Audiosuite preserve all the phase relationships of my mix? Thanks for anyone for replying. Roger

RE: question Re: Gain (Audiosuite)

Arche3, Sterling sound suggesting you send your mixes 5dB lower in level suggests they think your driving something too hot in your signal chain. You can check the phase coherence of a plugin with the old phase cancellation routine (L-R= 0 (silence) when L and R are the same ).

Observe 0dBVU in the tracking process and you won't be here.

RE: question Re: Gain (Audiosuite)

IME, the gain plug in is phase coherent, but as Mike said, why change the level of an original master ? If you clipped your mix then the damage is already done. Using the gain plug in or lowering the master fader on the original mix will only mean you're listening to (or recording) a clipped mix at lower level. The reverse is true for under recorded mixes.
