Serial #\'s -- Mac --> PC. Are they the same?

I'm looking to sell my 001 and I want to be sure I'm providing accurate info for potential PC buyers. Anyone know if the same serial numbers work for corresponding upgrades across platforms? For example, my 001 came with 5.01 (both Mac and PC) and I upgraded to 5.1 (which says "For Macintosh")-- will that 5.1 serial work for the PC version too? If it doesn't work, will the person that I'm transferring the registration to be able to get a new serial # that works for the PC version? Also, will the same # work for the 5.3.1 upgrade? It did let me download the PC version from the Downloads page, but I have no way of knowing if they work. Thanks, c

The serial numbers are cross-platform, allowing someone with a 5.1.x serial number for mac to "side-grade" by downloading either Pro Tools LE 5.1.1 for Windows 98/Me or 5.3.1 for Windows XP. The same is true in reverse, allowing you to side-grade from PTLE 5.1 for Windows to 5.1 for Mac. All three are in the Downloads section under Featured Downloads. If you and the buyer complete the Transfer of Ownership form in the Support -> Customer Service section of the website: ...then they can order a PTLE 5.1.1 or 5.3.1 CD from Digi CS Admin for around $15 if they prefer not to download, as long as the seller was registered for 5.1 or 5.3. If they want to go to PTLE 6, they would need to purchase the $75 upgrade from the DigiStore or an authorized Digidesign dealer. All Pro Tools 6.1 and higher paid upgrades include both Mac and Windows versions, and are full installers.

Thanks for the info. I did purchase the upgrade to 6 and just noticed that I had never registered it (at least I don't think I did since I still have the blank registration form). Is this required even though I've upgraded from a previosly registered version (5.1)? I do recall that I had to enter my 5.1 serial when selecting to purchase the upgrade online through the Digi store, so I wasn't sure if it were necessary or not. Should I do this before transferring ownership? Thanks. --- c

Yes, definitely send in your Pro Tools LE v6 registration. The Pro Tools license associated with the hardware and all upgrade rights to that software become the property of the new owner. If you go ahead and register the upgrade to PTLE 6 and do the transfer of ownership, the new owner will be registered for Pro Tools 6. You'll save them $75.
